Students imagine themselves in presidential roles

While not all of them are of voting age, four WHS students considered what they would do if they were president of the United States.

Sophomore Chloe Lux

Q: What would you do if you were president? Why?

A: I would rule the freakin’ world. I mean, because I’m queen.

Q: How would you accomplish this?

A: Well, I’d start by fixing gas prices and getting rid of clown costumes.

Q: How do you think this would affect people outside of the country?

A: They might want to move here because of our awesome gas prices and food.

Q: What qualities should a president have?

A: Well they shouldn’t shut everybody down and they need to be fashionistas. Everyone needs some style. Hillary’s red suit killed it.

Q: Do you have any defining qualities worthy of presidency?

A:  I’m freaking fashionable.

Q: What house or party would you be involved in? Would you be in any?

A: I would be independent.

Sophomore Kamryn Yach

Q: What would you do if you were president? Why?

A: I would sell this country for two goats because that’s what it’s worth.

Q: How do you think this would affect the people within our country?

A: A lot of us would probably become goat farmers.

Q: How do you think this would affect people outside of the country?

A: They’ll be jealous of our goat population. Except for whoever bought our country for two goats.

Q: What qualities should a president have?

A: They should be good with livestock and, as I learned from the debate, interrupting people. Don’t forget they also need to be great at ne-goat-iating.

Q: Do you have any defining qualities worthy of presidency?

A: I’m good at interrupting people.

Q: What house or party would you be involved in? Would you be in any?

A: Independent. Our symbol would be a goat.

Sophomore Ren Rozzel

Q: What would you do if you were president?

A: If I was president I would allow free health care, make abortion illegal unless it could cause death to the mother, offer free schooling from preschool to four year college or trade school of their choice, all decisions concerning the way of life of the people shall be voted upon by the people, with no veto by the government officials or the supreme leader, all citizens over the age of 15 (with consent from guardian) or over the age of 18 shall be able to vote on anything that may concern them, if the supreme leader is considered unfit, a vote will be conducted to usurp them. Anything sold that may have any effect by health or is consumed must provide full disclosure to the public of any and all procedures, risks, ingredients, and research studies.

Q: Why?

A: Well I find that children and older teens are not provided with enough say about what goes on in our country. And I feel like if any public brings it up, we should be able to usurp our leader. We give too much unlimited power to people to the point that they feel like they have the right to do anything with our country.

Q: How do you think this would affect the people within our country?

A: I feel like they’ll give us more power over how our country’s ran. Because it is our country; not the president’s country.

Q: How do you think this would affect people outside of the country?

A: Honestly, not much. Other than perhaps give other people more incentive to come to our country. I didn’t really talk much about foreign affairs.

Q: What qualities should a president have?

A: A love for the people, a willingness to be wrong, an open mind, a good heart, and a strong will. There will be things that you can’t give to the people, no matter how much you try.

Q: Do you have any defining qualities worthy of presidency?

A: Per the recommendation of others, I have been told that I am very kind and open minded as well as non-judgemental. Willing to listen to others and help others and willing to be wrong.

Q: What house or party would you be involved in? Would you be in any?

A: I wouldn’t be in any party due to the fact that it keeps you from making more open minded decisions, because then you would feel obligated to make decisions based on your party’s belief more than your own.

Senior Wesley Carr

Q: What would you do if you were president?

A: Make it so that instead of having a vice president, there’d just be a co-president. Me and Tommy would be co-presidents.

Q: Why?

A: To make sure that we had better sealed the happiness of our citizens.

Tommy

Q: What would you do if you were president?

A: The usual, I guess. Stuff like paperwork and civil suits. I would definitely make it to where not every nineteen year old can carry a gun without a permit. I would make it harder to purchase guns.

Q: How would this affect people within the country?

A: Stereotypical northern people would love me. People from Warsaw would hate me.

Garrett Smith

Q: What would you do if you were president?

A: If I was president, then I would probably do my best to deliver the people what they want while preserving the safety and honour of our country.  Why I would do this is simply because that is what a leader should do. A leader is meant to satisfy his/her followers without sacrificing moral principles.

Q: How would you achieve this?

A:  I suppose all of this would be achieved by winning over the people and choosing my advisors wisely. If I am in fact the president, then I must have won the people over already. Advisors are most effective when they are not corrupt.

Q: How do you think this would affect the people within our country?

A: I would hope that the people would be satisfied with the changes. If a controversial choice must be made, the public should be fully and equally informed of all the information used and the steps taken to form a conclusion.

Q: How do you think this would affect people outside of the country?

A:  I don’t know how it would really affect others until things start happening. I suppose nothing would change in the extreme. I do not wish to involve our troops and resources in every single scuffle outside our borders, so that would definitely change. Stopping terrorism would be a top priority, which I hope is currently.

Q: What qualities should a president have?

A: A president should be patient, realistic, confident, a listener, and selfless.

Q: Do you have any defining qualities worthy of presidency?

A: I think being qualified for any position is something that others should decide. I’m a good listener, and I am typically unbiased, but I do not want to be a self placed dictator who thinks he is capable of doing better than any other person.

Q: What house or party would you be involved in? Would you be in any?

A: I don’t like the concept of parties or houses. I think beliefs and desires are something that can be mixed and not categorized. I suppose I am a Republican if I have to choose.
