The WHS choir and band students attended the district competition at Stockton High School on March 3 and nine musicians qualified to compete at state.
The following musicians competed at district competition and will be moving on to state on May 1: sophomore trio, Angela Cerecero, Addison Hill and Amelia Roberts small group; Women’s small group of sophomore Abigail Burnham, senior Hayley Case, senior Aleah Minks, senior Jade Parmalee, senior Trinity Sandstrom, and Sarah Sherlin. Senior Jade Parmalee and sophomore Amelia Roberts also qualified for state with solos.
Senior Hayley Case is most excited about her group. “I’m most excited about my group, we have worked really hard and it’s a hardworking group,” Case said.
The sophomore trio this year included Angela Cerecero, Addison Hill, and Amelia Roberts. This trio has now qualified for state two years in a row.
Cerecero plans to focus on improving before state.
“I plan on improving by focusing on the parts I need to work on and practicing more often with Addie and Amelia to make sure I blend properly,” she said.
“I am most nervous about messing up and losing at state,” Roberts said.
Senior Jade Parmalee is going to state for her small group and solo. She is most excited about going to state for the first time.
“I’ve never been to state, so (I’m excited about) getting to be there for the first time and being there for both my solo and small group,” Parmalee said.
Sophomore Abigail Burnham is going to state for her small group.
“I am most excited about getting the opportunity to go to Mizzou to sing,” she said.
The band brought three solos to compete. Senior Elsie Hughes, junior Kobie Gerstner, and sophomore Adriana James – they all brought home silver ratings.
Going into the competition, James was excited to spend time with her friends.
“I’m really excited to be with my friends and then very excited to play my song,” she said.
