The day after Halloween, many people are divided about how and when to start celebrating the holiday season. Everyone either goes straight into Christmas tree season or hangs onto autumn through November to emphasize Thanksgiving. I, personally, used to be someone who would try to hold onto the autumn season for as long as I could, because it is my favorite. After years of doing that, I realized it’s not the same in November as it is in August. November starts to feel different – shorter days, colder air, and Christmas lights start popping up around town. Christmas is so special, that’s why most people start celebrating early. Everyone starts adjusting to the colder weather as family members start putting up Christmas lights. There’s no fighting that Christmas is meant to start once Halloween is over, it gives more time for Christmas. After all, who wants to celebrate Christmas for only a month?
Christmas is far different from any other holiday. Halloween is the second most celebrated holiday, but Christmas is so hyped, as it should be. From seeing the lights at the Harbor to seeing a Christmas tree in your house when you come home from school, we should all agree it’s the best holiday. The season may be cold and not as exciting as summer, but the winter season definitely is different in its own way.
We can all agree that we all enjoy a break from school. At the start of the year through autumn, our schedules are packed with work, most of it having to get done at home leaving no time (especially for athletes) to spend time with their families and develop hobbies. These days of repeated exhaustion can lead to a lot of stress on a student. This season allows a lot of opportunities to get that extra time at home. Christmas break is a great time for students to refresh and have time for themselves and their family before returning to school. I think this time is very important as it is the half way mark for school and makes school seem less like an endless cycle. Although the breaks are amazing, that’s not the only reason people enjoy Christmas.
The Christmas season is unlike any other holiday. Halloween is unique in its own way and many people love it, but it is nowhere near as hyped as Christmas. Before it’s even Halloween day we are having Christmas decorations in the store aisles and Christmas ads pop up online. In fact, the Christmas season is so precious that just one month isn’t long enough. That’s why people start celebrating early. There’s just so much to love about Christmas eggnog, lights, snowmen, hot chocolate, gingerbread houses, the Christmas tree, seasonal drinks, festive movies, and Santa. There are things that you think of when someone mentions Christmas, but there are many memories made during Christmas time. Spending time with family is very important and there are many things to do with your loved ones. You can make gingerbread houses, go sledding, make ornaments for the tree, or watch festive movies. Many people focus too much on presents, but this season isn’t all about receiving. It’s about getting closer with the people around you, getting that time for yourself, and having something to celebrate, so celebrate it as long as you want!
