FFA hosts plant cell, goes to state
Spring in FFA means the annual plant sale and contest season.
FFA, otherwise called Future Farmers of America, has been working on gaining money for their own plants grown in the greenhouse by the horticulture class. With the sales also comes the soils and floriculture, trap shooting, and horse judging contest.
“Our plant sale is going well, we only have a little left, we broke even with our sales so far,” agriculture instructor Amanda Smith said.
“The goal of the plant sale is to reach or go over the amount of money we made last year and have more of a variety of plants every year. The money goes towards the money we spent on the plants and greenhouse supplies and the rest goes towards our FFA Chapter. Students learn about the sale process side of agriculture and learn about different plants and how to care for them,” senior Sarah Johnson said, “We met our goal of paying for the supplies and plants purchased for the sale,” said Smith.
With the sales going very well, the students have also done very well in their contests.
“Sarah Johnson, Devin Hawley, and Grace Drake” Stated Smith. “They got silver in the central district. Alison W. competed in the Area 8 Extemporaneous Speaking contest and received bronze.”
Warsaw FFA sent students to contests in horse judging, soils, floriculture and ag sales.
“I made it to state in horse judging. In floriculture and Ag sales I qualified in Area and Districts,” Johnson said.
Johnson added that agriculture students can gain a lot from participating on a contest team.
“Students learn about the sale process side of agriculture and learn about different plants and how to care for them,” Johnson said.
With school slowly nearing its end, and everyone doing so well, the celebration banquet will be May 24th.
