Track team strives to improve for 2015 season
Track and field athletes are putting in the work to perform at the top of their game in the 2015 track season, which started this week.
The team has set many goals to accomplish throughout the season.
“Our goals are to work hard every day in practice, build confidence, compete to the best of our abilities, and lower our times/improve our scores every time out,” track coach Cody Morgan said.
“I’m going to work harder on going faster for a longer amount of time,” senior Jessie Kuykendall said.
Kuykendall placed sixth in the 1600 m race at sectionals last year.
Junior Keyona Davis has personal goals to beat her own record from last year and improving her relays for this season.
“I plan to beat my personal record from last year and improving on my relays,” Davis said.
Davis competes in the 4×100, 4×200, 100 m dash, and the 200 m dash this season.
Confidence sticks high for the track team this year as the coaches prepare them for their meets.
“I think I’ll do good and fast,” sophomore Frank McMillin said.
“I think I’ll do pretty decent because the coaches have been working us hard to prepare us for our meet,” Davis said.
Track team had a unique first meet March 24 at UCM in Warrensburg, which will be held on an indoor track.
“It’s a unique meet being an indoor meet and most of the events are ran on a 200 meter track instead of a 400 meter track,” Morgan said.
