Pep club organizers are once again trying to bring energy and school spirit to athletic events through game attendance and theme coordination.
Sponsor Cari Austin has been supervising pep club for two years.
“I love being a small part of encouraging the student body to support their friends in their athletic endeavors,” Austin said.
Some themes already brought into the stands are USA, NEON,and GREEN OUT!
“I loved neon, but I can’t wait for black out,” said freshman Hannah Cobb.
Junior Levi Bilderback looks forward to country night also because he has an amazing outfit ready”
Some students are not directly involved in the pep club, but enjoy cheering along with the group at games.
Senior Urijah Phillips says that he is peppy for games because he also is in sports.
“Students don’t have to sign up for the pep club, although they have to be held up to handbook standards.”
Cari Austin says while explaining her feelings on students who are not officially in the pep club.
“Students have a long time to sign up, but they will not be told not to sit in the pep club and be peppy .The sports teams keep the rotation of football players attending volleyball games and volleyball players going to football.”
Pep club has involved a new group of freshmen such as Hannah Cobb, Alexis Brown-Jones, Denver Steinhoff, and many more students.
Freshman Alexis Brown Jones shared a moment when she felt embarrassed while cheering at the team.
“My most embarrassing moment is when I’m not paying attention to what’s happening and cheering for the wrong team,” she said.
Not only does pep club help show school spirit, but it also uplifts and boosts the cheerleading team during times when games can be difficult during football season.
Sophomore Alyssa Boyd believes that having a pep club there not only encourages her, but gives her more motivation during games.
“I believe that pep clubs help a lot, they are really helpful with call backs and make me enjoy Friday night lights better,” she said.
