Being sick during the school year is an inconvenience for all students, though everybody has multiple ways to make them feel better and not miss important things.
“The beginning of the school year is always difficult due to students coming back together after the summer and germs start spreading.” Nurse Seanna Stevenson said.
The first few months of school, many have been sick or unwell, due to the seasons changing and infectious illnesses.
“I usually start feeling sick at the beginning of the year or towards winter, I have a stomach bug or the flu.” Junior Karly Keele said.
Some students think bed rest is the “best medicine.” to fight the sickness.
“When I was sick with strep throat, and the flu, I stayed home to rest.” freshman Cylas Hammock said.
“Staying home when sick can lower the risk of spreading infections. Under routine circumstances, some illness spread among school communities is expected,” according to cdc.gov.
“Antibiotics treat bacterial illness such as strep pharyngitis Virus viral illness are treated by conservative treatment such as rest, increasing fluids,
and over-counter medications. If you’re sick with a fever, please stay home.” Nurse Stevenson said.
A problem everyone faces when they are out sick, is all the work they miss and have to get caught up on.
“I was sick and had to leave early several times, and I was missing a lot of work. I asked my teacher for help and was able to complete it all,” sophomore Braylee Cunningham said.
