Senior Wesley Jackson has been running cross country for four years and is determined to make his mark in his final season with his eyes being set on breaking the school record, no matter what. He recently set his fastest time of 12:20 in Bolivar.
He loves the self discipline of the sport and his teammates. He first realized he loved the sport when he made state in his sophomore year. Jackson’s journey has been full of challenges.
“Every meet is a mental hurdle, around that two mile mark, it’s a bad deal,” Jackson said.
Jackson’s “hurdles” include mud runs that are ankle high, 100 degrees weather, and more, but those experiences have only made him stronger.
He credits his two teammates, sophomores Brody Boggs and Roman Sabella, who push him the most, especially at practice. His passion for running won’t stop there, Jackson hopes to carry long-distance running with him to college.
