Even going into the district tournament, the Ladaycats softball team has had quite a success with a varsity record of 18-2.
This season, the team has bonded through tournaments, games and practices and have made many different memories as a team, especially with their seniors. The team has been formidable opponents, run-ruling most of their games.
Coach Kelly Eierman explains how the seniors will be missed tremendously.
“Our seniors will be missed tremendously. They are great leaders on and off the field. They show up every single day ready to better themselves and their teammates.” Eierman said.
Senior shortstop Haylee Cobb explains her favorite memories with the younger players.
“My favorite memories with the team are bonding during our Mount Vernon tournament and also on the way home from the Concordia game. It’s just very fun and a great bonding experience,” Cobb said.
This year, the seniors include pitcher Brylee Brewster and shortstop Haylee Cobb and they are very inspiring to many of the underclassmen and make them push themselves so that they can be the best that they can.
Sophomore Elizabeth Winters explains how the seniors help.
“The seniors are always there for advice and to pick you up when you need it,” Winters said.
Sophomore Kasey Franklin explains how they bring energy to the team.
“The seniors are always there to bring energy to the team and to pick you up and encourage you when you are down,” Franklin says.
District play began on May 10 for the Cats. They won their conference championship on Sat, May 3 against El Dorado Springs 15-0. This was an important comeback game after losing to the Bulldogs in the conference championship in the 2024 season. The team made it to the second round of district playoffs that season, losing
As the time was getting closer, the Lady Cats have to stay focused and continue to do the best that they can with their daily practices and everyone giving it their best.
As of right now the Lady Cats are ranked number one in the state and in class two.
They planned to win districts and make it into the state tournament.
Cobb had high hopes the team would make it further than last year.
“We plan on improving our confidence as a team and learn to handle ourselves in intense situations and know we have each other’s back!” Cobb says.
