Being quiet has taught me a lot during my high school career. If I had a favorite quote it would be “The quieter you become, the more you can hear.”
While being quiet, I have observed a lot while not being noticed. I can tell you what is going on while not being involved in the sport or activities. I know what is going to happen in school or out of school by being quiet and listening to others. Being quiet has helped me a lot in photojournalism. Being quiet lets me slip in between everyone when I’m taking photos. It helped when I was taking photos of sports because being quiet doesn’t distract anyone around me.
I enjoy being quiet because I enjoy not having the focus on me. I never draw attention to myself by being loud. Sometimes, people are too focused on being heard than really listening. Being quiet as a journalist has let me listen while interviewing a person. I was able to stay out of the way and let the source really tell their story. Quietness is the best when it comes to writing because I never distracted anyone else. Quietness is a trait that has helped me the last four years. My skills in listening and observing have gotten better since freshman year. I never got in trouble for being loud. Quietness is a trait I love that I have because I never need to be loud to be present. I have learned a lot from being quiet.
There are downsides to being quiet. In class, I was forgotten a lot when assigning stories or when assigning photo assignments. Since I am quiet, getting onto people was something that was hard for me and I needed to work on.
While I have things to work on since I am quiet, I wouldn’t have changed anything from the last four years. I am glad that quietness was a trait I had while in high school.
