FFA has found some success at contests this spring and one member has gained a new area honor as an officer.
Many students received Bronze, Silver, and even Gold at the Central District Career Development Events district contest.
The food science team (Adele Anderson, Emma Taylor, Bailey Burnworth, Matt Stegink and Brendon Caylor) finished 18th place, “Bronze.” Anderson earned a “Gold,” finishing in 16th place individually. The meats team (Emma Callahan, Meadow Allcorn and Tyler Fajen) finished 25th place, “Bronze.” Callahan and Allcorn both earned “Silver” individually. Freshman Hunter Beeler earned “Silver” in Livestock judging. The Farm Management team (Jenna Gerken, Jordan Dove, Karly Keele and Kaylynn Luallen) finished 15th place, “Silver.” The Dairy Foods team (Nathaniel Griffin, Isabella Schwartz, Tyler Eshleman and Elizabeth Phillips) earned 22nd place, “Silver.” Phillips also earned “Bronze” individually.
Several freshmen went to districts this year, one of them including Hunter Beeler, who believes he did pretty well in judging livestock.
“I believe as a freshman I did pretty good judging livestock, especially with getting silver as a freshman,” Beeler said.
Sophomore Karly Keele also believes that she did pretty well at districts.
“I believe that I did pretty well, I received silver under the category Farm Management,” she said.
Several students who went to districts were in the Farm Management category. This group included Sophomores Jenna Gerken, Jordan Dove, Karly Keele, and Kaylynn Luallen and Adele Anderson. This group received Silver.
Keele believed that they did pretty well but thinks that she could have studied more on her own for the test that they take.
“I believe that as a group we did pretty well and we could have done better, but that’s okay, we are going to improve and hopefully place better next year. I also believe that I could have studied more on my own, especially Farm Management,” she said.
Several students went to districts for Food Science and several received bronze as well as one placing gold.
Sophomores Emma Taylor, Bailey Burnworth, and Matt Stegink received bronze as a team. Sophomore Adele Anderson received Gold.
One thing that Matt Stegink thinks he can work on is studying more.
“I’m going to put more time into studying for sure,” he said.
Emma Taylor also believes that she can study more.
“I believe I should have studied a lot more and been more prepared for what’s ahead,” she said.
On March 5, Junior Brayden Henderson was elected to be the Area Vice President.
Henderson explained that he was elected after an interview by delegates from area schools.
In this position, Henderson is hoping to make his area and school have a great year next year.
“I am hoping that I do very well in this position and make this next year a really great one with all the work and dedication,” Henderson said.
Getting this role was not very easy. There was work that Henderson did to work his way up to this position.
“This is my third year in FFA and so I’ve just been very active in my chapter and going to different events, like state and national conventions. I also applied last year, but did not get in and so it was like it was a good learning experience to have for this next year,” he said.
