“Keeping the head down and on top of the ball, no pop ups, pulling the shoulder, and getting the head out, are all things I try to accomplish.” senior Right fielder Bradley Watson said.
“I think all coaches can improve and it really comes down to increasing your knowledge and how to best get your point across to the athletes,” is an objective assistant coach Gage Boise said.
Last season, the Warsaw Wildcats went 17-22, making it to sectionals with a district title. They were defeated by Lone Jack 3-16 in the sectional game.
This year, the Cats are back fired up and ready to go, finishing 2nd in the Odessa Tournament, and getting big wins over the Holden Eagles and the Weaubleau Tigers.
“We as a team have the goal of making a state run, and just have fun winnings as a team along the way,” senior second baseman Drake Murrell said.
“I wanna run it back with the boys and win districts again, because I want to have a party at coach Eierman’s house. When we win districts, we get to jump in his pool while he’s sleeping,” junior pitcher Ryan Fajen said.
“We are off to a good start, we will see how the next few weeks shake out,” head coach Johnny Eierman said.
Baseball has multiple things players find as their favorite, and some things are not only beneficial for the game, but for life beyond baseball.
“I enjoy bonding with my friends and. Also enjoy playing shortstop because I like defense. I like it because I have been playing it since I was little” sophomore infielder Logan Gemes said.
“My favorite part of coaching baseball is district time because any team can beat anybody on any given night.” Eierman said.
“Outside of the sport of baseball it also teaches you how to communicate, bond and make connections with people, and to face adversity when the time comes. Also, Problem solving and teamwork,” senior third baseman Garrett Ferguson said.
