Many students find different ways to prepare for school dances. Some say that the preparation leading up to the dance helps them to be more relaxed and less stressed when the day of the dance comes.
“A spray tan, getting my nails done, and doing my hair is a necessity when I prepare for an upcoming dance,” sophomore Bailey Burnworth said.
As it can be nerve racking for freshmen coming to their first dance, there are many things they can do to help get themselves ready and prepared for it.
“I would recommend making your plans ahead of time and making sure you buy your dress early,” senior Tatum Bohl said.
This year the Echoes dance is on March 1, and the theme is “Old Hollywood: A Night on the Red Carpet.” Some students wait to shop for dresses until the theme is announced so they can plan accordingly.
“Being involved in yearbook, I take part in picking out the theme for Echoes and knowing what the decorations are, so I like for my dress to go along with the color scheme and decorations,” senior Keira Mostaffa said.
“We love planning the decorations for Echoes, my editor, Ashlynn Adams, gets to shop on Amazon and we love being creative,” yearbook advisor Amanda Adler said.
Lots of students express the excitement that comes with dance preparations. “My favorite part of preparing for Echoes is going dress shopping around three weeks before the dance,” sophomore Lillianna Perez said.
The Prom committee also does several things to prepare for the dance. On Nov. 6, they took a trip to go look at locations for where prom will be hosted.
“It’s nice to get out and visually see several choices of venues for prom. I’m excited for this year, and think it will be good!” junior Tanna Howe said.
There are two local stores in Warsaw that students can shop for their Echoes outfit. Main Event wedding boutique is located downtown and has a variety of options for prom dresses. Evenings Only Formal Wear is another local store that has Echoes dresses, prom dresses, and tuxedos. However, shopping online is also a popular option among students.
“I prefer ordering online because there is a wider variety of options,” junior Aubree Smith said.
As many do corsages and boutonnieres, it has recently become a more popular trend for girls to have flower bouquets. A favored local place to get these is the Warsaw Flower Shop or The Petal Market on Main.
“One of my favorite parts of the dances is getting my flower bouquet. I love matching it with my dress and think it looks very good in pictures,” senior Brylee Brewster said.
The attire for Echoes is more semi-formal as prom is more formal. With semi-formal attire for Echoes, short dresses are more common. As prom is more formal, long dresses are more popular. With the more formal attire, prom dresses are usually more expensive. The average price for an Echoes dress is around $50, while prom dresses are around $200. There are many other expenses that come with dances. Some get their hair done, nails done, spray tan, and also have to purchase a ticket. Echoes tickets are $10 dollars in advance and $12 at the door, and prom tickets are $45 a person.
