With having a big family Glenn doesn’t have much free time but when she does, she spends a lot of time enjoying horticulture.
“I don’t have a lot of free time because I have a big family. I spend most of my time with my husband and our five kids, going to events and sports with them. My husband, Trey, and I have five children; Rachel 19, Isaac 17, David 16, Bekah 15, and Emery 10. Our house is loud and crazy, and we can be a lot to be around, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. We have three fur babies: two yorkies, Toby and Ollie, and a blue heeler, Reno. During the summer, I spend a LOT of time in my garden and yard. I love horticulture! One day, I plan to retire and own a huge greenhouse. Fun fact: I originally went to school to pursue a degree in horticulture.”
During the fall and winter seasons, her favorite seasonal activities are to have bonfires with family and friends with music playing in a cozy blanket enjoying s’mores.
Glenn explains what all is involved in her class.
“English III is mostly about being able to read a text, analyze the text, and respond in writing and verbally. I have focused on reading dystopian novels that address issues with the overuse of power. We analyze a variety of texts, including poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Research writing is important at this level. This year, I plan to incorporate a creative writing unit in the second semester since I did not get to teach creative writing classes this year.”
Often students abandon their reading habits and Glenn hopes to strengthen them.
“I teach English with the hope to encourage a love for reading. Students often abandon reading after elementary school, so my entire goal is to show them that books can be amazing. If I can bring a few kids back to the love of reading, I feel successful.”
She has been with the Warsaw school district for 10 years and also teaches classes through State Fair Community College.
“I had a late start in life with my career, waiting until all of my children were in school to go back to full time work. This is my third year at the high school teaching English III. I spent my first seven years at South Elementary as a 4th/5th grade teacher. Outside of Warsaw High School, I also teach HiSet and GED classes for State Fair Community College two nights a week. I help adults who did not finish high school to complete their high school equivalency diploma.”
Glenn has received her degrees from State fair Community College, Central Methodist University and University of Central Missouri. She’s also certified to teach elementary, middle school and high school English as well as special education and adult education.
