After five years of being a student-run organization, the pep club has reorganized with faculty sponsors in an effort to boost student involvement, become better organized and provide supervision of the club. Their goal is to bring the noise to Wildcat sporting events.
This year the Pep Club has been changed a lot and that inspired many to join. This year pep club now has 108 students. The group holds meetings before games where themes are announced and signs are made.
The pep club has been student run for the past five years. In 2016, a faculty sponsor and a group of student leaders organized what was called “Wildcat Nation.” This group was governed by “The Green Machine Council” who organized pep club events. In 2018, the sponsorship was stopped and the club was put entirely in the hands of the students. Changing this has changed a lot for WHS giving everyone a chance for more to be involved and for this to be more organized.
This year, there are two faculty sponsors, freshman English teacher Teresa Arcisz and special education teacher Cari Austin.
“Having a sponsor for the pep club this year really makes a big difference in organization and much more,” sophomore Izzy Schierholz said.
Having a sponsor also means more students will have a chance for their theme ideas to get out there.
“I would really love to see Marvel as well as Minions,” freshman Wyatt Drake said.
“Definitely hunting, farmers, and rappers,” senior Fisher Love suggested as game night themes.
“I would just simply love to see our school colors and for everyone to just have their school pride with them,” Schierholz said.
Pep Club is a way for freshmen to get involved with school spirit. Freshman Amya Dotson joined the group because she thought it would be fun.
“Just supporting my school and having fun, as well as supporting my teacher most of all,” she said.
“It can affect how hyped players get during games and overall boost our morale for the game,” Drake said. Drake plays football and he said he really appreciates all the support that football gets during a game.
“It makes our Cats ready to go while being more peppy- making them play harder,” Dotson said.
“Yes, it helps them stay motivated and for them to know that we are there for them no matter how the game ends,” Dotson said.
Pep Club has over a hundred students and would love for more to join as a lot of them are student athletes.
Some of the changes for the group has been moving the student section to the grandstand at Randy Morrow field.
“As a cheerleader I think it helps get our crowd more excited and gets the cheerleaders more excited to do their job,” freshman Abigail Burnham said.
