As the 2024 volleyball season begins, the Ladycats have shown more early season success than previous years. Even though their record is not a winning one, it doesn’t reflect how close matches have been. Despite what their record shows, some athletes and coaches have expressed positive feelings about this season.
“This season is shaping up pretty well. The team has been putting in a lot of hard work, and it’s really showing in our games. We have only had a handful of games so far, but these games have gone into four or five sets and you can really see that we are building a strong sense of teamwork and confidence that’s translating onto the court,” Head Coach Kelsi Brosnahan said.
Last season, the Ladycats won their first round of districts and later lost in the second round. After last season’s win in districts, they couldn’t wait for the next upcoming season and were ready to build off of what they had last year. Their district win last year was the first one in over 15 years.
“Coming off of last season, we are emphasizing the importance of consistency and mental toughness. By leveraging our experiences and lessons learned from last season, we’re aiming to elevate our game and reach new heights this year,” Brosnahan said.
This year the Cats are practicing very hard to go even farther than they did last year. Watching film is one of the ways the girls resort to to get better and prepare for their next match.
“For each opponent, the girls will go back and look at how they’ve done previously and specifically find who they’re going to be up against,” senior outside hitter Haylee Cobb said.
The team has experienced some close matches this season, making it an exciting experience for players and fans.
“My favorite part of volleyball is when you’re in a close, intense game and your team is working together and having fun,” sophomore setter Elizabeth Winters said.
The Ladycats season is still young with plenty more games to go until districts.
“Our season is going good so far. Our record doesn’t show it, but we are playing well together and all of our games have been close,” junior right side hitter Hailey Ferguson said.
