Members of the class of 2025 feel bittersweet emotions as they experience their last firsts this school year – starting with their last first day of school on Aug. 20. While many are ready to leave and be done with high school, some are trying to take in every little moment of their last year.
“I am trying to take in every moment because it’s the only time in my life I’m going to be in high school, so I’m going to enjoy it and have the best year,” senior Dakota Todd said.
Many seniors are feeling mixed emotions while starting their senior year of high school.
“My emotions are very anxious, very confused, and I feel like I haven’t processed fully that it’s my last year here,” senior Haylee Cobb said.
“I feel happy knowing how far I’ve made it, but sad knowing this will be my last time doing all of these things,” senior Keira Mostaffa said.
This year’s seniors are making the most out of their final run. The morning before the first day of school, the senior class had their “Senior Sunrise.” Many of them enjoyed it and loved being there.
“The senior sunrise was really fun, because I got to experience it with my friends,” Todd said.
“It was great to gather together as a group of seniors and enjoy some pancakes together,” senior Logan Gemes said.
The senior athletes have experienced their last, first practices and games. As the seasons started, they felt strong emotions knowing these will be their last couple months of playing the sports that many of them have played their whole lives.
“I am feeling a bit of sadness, because this might be my last time playing the game I love,” Todd said.
“Being a senior, I know the sports I play are coming to an end. I haven’t really thought too much about it and it hasn’t hit me yet, but for now I play every game the best I can,” senior Garrett Ferguson said.
“Throughout high school, I didn’t feel like sports would ever end. Now that I’m a senior, the four years have flown by and it is very sad to think about not playing a sport anymore,” Gemes said.
“The worst part about being a senior is going through my last seasons of sports. The thought of being on the court/field for the last time is heartbreaking and the worst feeling that will come. I am excited for the chapter outside of this school, but sports have been my life for years so it doesn’t feel real thinking that I won’t be playing again. The memories that I’ve made through each year are some of the best I’ve ever made. It really has hit me as October arrives that this is my last go on the volleyball court,” Cobb said.
Seniors have high hopes for the year while experiencing all of their lasts.
“My biggest outlook is to make the most out of everything I can and make the best memories,” Cobb said.
While the seniors are upset about graduating, they are also very excited for May, so they can move on and begin their lives as adults.
“It feels good to finally be a senior, because I’m about to move on in life and enter my next chapter,” senior Drake Murrell said.
