This season, the track team has improved on the way they train.
“We put in a new sprint training program called “Feed the Cats,” and we are taking a slightly different approach to practice, trying to keep athletes fresh, yet conditioned and trying to peak at the right time of the season,” coach Cody Morgan said.
The runners are aiming to achieve goals for this season.
“My goal is to medal in discus or at least get a new pr (personal record) over 20 meters,” sophomore Daytona Kinnan said.
Some have achieved the goals they have set for themselves.
Junior Fisher Love’s goal was “to beat our school records.” He has done that as part of the 4x200m relay team this season. The boys 4x200m set a new school record with a time of 1:36.27 at the Versailles meet in April, breaking the record that was set in 2003.
The team consists of Love, junior Mason Anderson, junior Shane Poyser and sophomore Gage Long.
“I feel good, but there’s more to be broken,” Anderson said.
Coaches set high expectations for this season and push their athletes towards improvement. Morgan and assistant coach Mason Dunnaway lead the track team.
“Our goal is to PR and compete every time out. (We hope we) do better than we did yesterday,” Morgan said.
So far, runners seem to be having a good season
“It’s going well. I’m close to achieving my goal,” Kinnan said.
The team season has improved a lot.
“Season has gone great. The boys have finished top 3 as a team 3x, including winning the Warsaw Invitational. Girls have done good as well, improving every time out and placing 2nd in the Warsaw Invitational as a team,” Morgan said.
The boys team placed sixth at El Dorado Springs, first at Warsaw home meet, first at Versailles, and second at Cole Camp..
The girls team placed second at the Warsaw home meet, fifth at Versailles and fourth at Cole Camp.
