Many FFA members have good memories of attending Food For America as elementary students, and this fall they got the chance to be on the other side of the event as they planned demonstrations and showed off their projects to elementary students from North and South schools.
“My favorite memory of being able to participate in Food For America is the experience I get with the little kids. I enjoy hearing their questions and teaching them about agriculture,” sophomore Brayden Henderson said.
“My favorite memory is seeing how happy the kids are going to each vendor,” sophomore Jessie Bilderback said.
FFA Students gathered for Food For America on October 20th in the parking lot by the Ag building.
“I presented electrical as well as electrical safety so that the little kids better understand the dangers and precautions that are important to take while being around electrical,” azBilderback said.
FFA Members really loved interacting with all the kids and teaching them about things in agriculture. Henderson said he really enjoyed “seeing all the kids learn great things.” Henderson did a project on hunter safety.
“It was a really fun experience because we got to inform kids about the importance of hunter safety,” sophomore Josh Harvath said.
Members got a break to go eat lunch after the last bus left to take back elementary students. The food team prepared a wonderful meal for members. They were seniors Dylan Elmer, Johnny Jones; juniors Trent Downing, Joshua Bunch, Fisher Love, Paige Collier; sophomores Luke Henderson, Wesley Collier; and freshmen Jordan Dove and KayLynn Luallen.
Food for America has been around for little over 15 years and is one of the key events for the students in FFA and they look forward to this event every year. Food For America day is focused on educating youth about agriculture and FFA.
“My group taught Hunter Safety because kids need to know how to be safe when hunting so they don’t hurt others or themselves,” Henderson said.
