Editorial: Be kind to your body, it needs to last a lifetime
Your body is something that you will have forever, so you have to take care of it. If you take care of your body you will see so many benefits from doing so. Some of those benefits are better physical, mental, and emotional health and well being.
According to everydayhealth.com, self-care promotes positive health outcomes, such as fostering resilience, living longer, and becoming better equipped to manage stress. This means eating frequent and nutritious meals, getting exercise daily, getting enough sleep and finding time to rest your mind.
As teenagers, we often are not looking too far into the future when it comes to thinking about our health. We might sacrifice sleep for video games, friends, social media, sports and even school work. We tend to eat whatever junk food we can get our hands on and fast food is a teenage staple. Some of us might even experiment with vapes or alcohol. What we all need to remember, however, is that, while we might make mistakes, we are now creating the health habits that can affect our habits as young adults.
When talking about self care and making sure you are healthy, a lot of people think that it is “a lot of work” or even perceived as being selfish. The reason why some people may think of it as being selfish is because they have only been taught how to take care of others and not themselves. In my opinion, when it comes to your self care, you have to be selfish. It is important to make sure that you are happy and comfortable in your own body.
Another important thing about taking care of yourself is making sure that you have good hygiene. This means doing some daily tasks, such as showering, brushing your teeth, wearing deodorant, and wearing clean clothes. It is important to have good hygiene because if you do so it will help keep infections from spreading. If you don’t have good hygiene it lowers your life expectancy. When having good hygiene it can even make you feel more confident and improve mental health, as well as physical.
You only get one body. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
