Choir, band rehearse for annual winter concert
Parents and students will be able to listen to traditional holiday music performed by the band and choir during their joint Winter Concert. The concert will be held on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7 pm in the high school gymnasium.
“It’s important to give the students opportunities to perform so that their families and the community can see the things happening in the music department,” choir director Deanna Schockmann said.
The choir department will be singing eight songs, one of which will be accompanied by live music from the band.
“We have been working very hard during class to perfect our pieces,” senior madrigal member Haley Dwyer said. “We started preparing during the second week of November and it has been pretty smooth sailing since. There are a couple of songs that returning choir members know that we perform every year that we are fine tuning, but we are excited to showcase what we have been working so hard on for the past couple of weeks!”
“Christmas KumBaYa” will be sung by the Women’s Choir. “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” will be performed by a joint Women’s Choir. The joint Men’s Choir will be singing “Silent Snowfall” and “Holiday Road,” while the joint choirs will come together to sing “Carol of the Bells” and “Dona Nobis Pacem.”
The band will also be performing during the concert with four pieces of “Moon of Winter,” “Elf Dance,” “Jingle Bells Forever” and “Dona Nobis Pacem.”
Both the band and choir will perform “Dona Nobis Pacem” in harmony. Musicians will be spaced out as much as possible to adhere to safety guidelines and they will be wearing masks when not performing. It is asked that members of the audience wear a mask and socially distance as well.
